Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cerium Oxide?

Cerium oxide is a rare earth mineral and the industry-standard polishing compound for glass restoration. It chemically reacts with glass at a microscopic level, smoothing imperfections and restoring clarity. This process effectively removes scratches, sanding marks, haziness, water spots, and limescale, making it a top choice for automotive, household, and industrial glass restoration.

What’s the Difference Between High and Fine Grade Cerium Oxide?
  • High-Grade Cerium Oxide (3.5 microns, 85% TREO) is slightly coarser, making it ideal for general glass restoration where a stronger cutting action is needed.
  • Fine-Grade Cerium Oxide (2.5 microns, 95% TREO) is more refined and best suited for optical lenses, high-end glassware, and gemstone polishing.
Can Cerium Oxide Damage My Glass?

No, cerium oxide is safe for all glass types when used correctly. It polishes without scratching, but improper use—such as excessive pressure or using the wrong tools—can lead to unwanted results.

What Types of Glass Can I Use This On?
  • Car windshields & windows
  • Shower doors & glass tabletops
  • Mirrors & household glass
  • Aquariums & boat windows
  • Tempered & laminated glass
Does This Work on Deep Scratches?

High-grade cerium oxide is best for fine to moderate scratches. If a scratch catches your fingernail, it may require abrasive sanding before polishing for the best results.

How Do I Use High-Grade Cerium Oxide?
  1. Mix cerium oxide powder with water to create a smooth paste.
  2. Apply with a felt polishing pad on the surface.
  3. Polish using a rotary tool or drill at 1500–2500 RPM, keeping the glass temperature 30–50°C (86–122°F).
  4. Work in sections, keeping the pad moving over the surface. Repeat the process as needed until the Damage is no longer visible.
  5. Clean the glass thoroughly after polishing to remove any residue.
Can I Use This on Gemstones or Crystals?

Yes! High-Grade Cerium Oxide can be used on harder stones and certain crystals. When applied by hand, it helps clean and restore clarity. When used with a rotary device, it can enhance the polish and remove surface imperfections, making it suitable for quartz, tourmaline, and other durable gemstones and crystals. However, for fine or delicate gemstone work, Fine-Grade Cerium Oxide is recommended for a more refined finish.

Do I Need Special Equipment to Use This?

For best results, use a rotary tool or drill with a felt polishing pad. Hand application can clean glass but will not effectively remove scratches.

Is This Safe to Use Indoors?

Yes! Our non-toxic, zinc-free formula is safe for indoor use. However, we recommend using gloves and a dust mask when handling fine powders.

How Much Cerium Oxide Do I Need?

The required amount depends on your project size:

  • 50g (1.76 oz) → Polishes up to 4m², enough for at least 2 windshields or large glass panels
  • 100g (3.52 oz) → Ideal for multiple glass surfaces, aquariums, or repeated use
  • 250g (8.8 oz) → Suitable for larger restoration projects or professionals
  • 1kg (2.2 lbs) → Best for bulk use, workshops, or industrial applications

Product works well. I have extremely damaged glass from water etch. I used wet and dry sandpaper, begining with 240 and working up to 1200 to remove most damage. Then I used this glass polish product in conjunction with the felt pads on a polishing wheel. It took a bit of work and time but the results have been great. 15years of trying to fix this problem and in 30 mins I've managed to make a vast improvement. Before and after pictures below. Please note, polishing alone was not enough, sanding the glass first was necessary.

Did a fantastic job of removing wiper marks on windshield.

I used this product for removing wiper marks on a windshield. Using a orbital sander with microfiber pad. Took about 2 hours but saved me from buying a new windshield. Make sure you cover everything up it makes a huge mess.

It works!!!

Have a 63 impala with original windshield, had some nice scratches from the wipers, must mix the powder with warm water to form a paste, apply to scratch and use a buffer wheel on a drill, repeat this 3 or 4 times applying light pressure, it the paste gets hard on glass spray some water, buff and clean off, amazed how it took out this scratch, stuff does not come with instructions but just YouTube it, good luck!!

My husband was in a rush to go out and used a scouring pad to clean the bird poop from the windscreen, the picture shows the scratches we were left with! Using an electric buffer and this powder we were able to completely remove the scratches. Excellent product, but does take a bit of time and patience even with the power tools.

Just what I wanted

I scratched both lenses of my reading glasses and was looking for a way to polish them without replacing the lenses or buying new glasses. Did some research and this was the stuff I needed. Made a paste and used my Dremel with a wet pad and worked it for about ten to fifteen minutes, stopping to add more paste or rewet, checking to see progress. You can compare the remaining scratched lens with the one I worked on. Things to keep in mind; these are reading glasses with no coating and I think they may be polycarbonate and not glass. So your mileage may vary. For me it was worth taking a chance. I avoided having to buy another pair of prescription glasses. If you can, work outdoors as the pink paste splatters all over. It washes off easily with water but still.

PERFECT SOLUTION!

Our fixer-upper had old windows with aluminum trim pieces. Removing trim leaves glass with glazed damage on the window. Rather than spend $176/window to replace, we went looking for a polishing solution. Ordered/used this Cerium polishing powder with the 75 mm Felt Polishing Buffing Wheel, 3 inch Wool Polishing Wheel for use with Cerium Oxide Polishing Powder. WORKED PERFECTLY! Thanks for providing a product that does exactly what it says. Having the buffing wheel attached to makita made this an effortless task. Happy husband!

Had a very hard water spot on my windshield. Tried to clean with invisible glass and #0000 steel wool; was never able to remove hard water spots.Mixed 50g of Cerium Oxide with water- 1:1 volume and mixed well.Soak my black (finishing) orbital sponge with the mixture and covered my windshield until the solution is "properly" spread over the windshield.Left it for 10 minutes for chemical reaction to complete and wash off with a pressure washer.Cleaned with a microfiber towel and applied Rain X.Works great. For those who cannot get their windshield polished properly, look up some tutorial videos online.

I had a long curved windshield scratch on a brand new vehicle likely caused by an abrasive contaminant on my windshield wiper.I bought and used the Cerium Oxide glass polish. I used a micro cloth to apply and polish to the scratch by hand which was extensive but not deep to my finger nail.It took me at least say 4 hours all in and several attempts but I am happy to say the product and the process worked and the scratch is removed! Happy to be Irish as I understand the product is from Ireland.

I had a scratch on my windscreen right in my line of vision and I was a little hesitant to be honest in using this.I watched the video link which explained the exact mixing process and way to use it, the result was amazing, but you need a pad on a drill or polisher as it describes, it would be a long long process by hand.
